Back to updated you....
I've got a few things to cover since last week. I'll first start with our speaker and what I gathered from last week's topic "The Nature and Character of God."
I'll just pull a few things from my notes that I can remember I took. I'm sorry I can't take myself back to that day, but I can at least recall my thoughts.
A lot of what I gathered was just finding out really just how much God loves me, Us! It really felt like John Justine went back to the very basics like I mentioned before about becoming a child again with bringing the Lord right back to my side and discovering his love anew. I/We still and never will fully grasp the love from our father.
It's a freedom: given us the right to become children of God. "God has made me good." (Like a citizenship it's not earned, just given).
Quote from A.W. Tozer "What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."
John then lead into Genesis. From the very beginning God created. He wanted chilren. He then made us. This had become what we now know as the trinity, 'the dance'. This takes my mind back to the book, "The Shack," (thank you Andie) which gives me this wonderful picture of God as this homely sweet black woman who loves and loves. Next in line is Jesus this dear friend who feels exactly what we feel. He is like this connector to understanding that God (sweet mother) is not all that far away from Us. And then the Holy Spirit, which looks like this near but distant distortion of a picture we can't quite grasp the visual face. We know she's there but we can't fully understand.
So the big question...Why did God create us?
TO BE RELATIONAL!
The good news...
Original sin OR original PLAN
GOd mad man so that man could be with him. This brings into play that character Jesus.
I'd like to point out a great memory John painted for us in class. He said do you know what parents are like when they're about to have a child come into the world? They drastically decorate and prepare this room for a being that isn't even in this world yet. However, the time and effort going into the preparations are out of love. So much love for something just because it is what is it. No matter how good it is or isn't or going to be, but just because IT is. Think about that concept of preparing a room, and now just think: God is preparing our room as babies.
Another very valid point of why did God create us was where John went into the beauty of the world. Why do we have taste buds? Taste buds are ONLY created for pleasure. Why else would God create it? Think about things like mountains, sunsets, the waves crashing on a beach. Beauty for what?
Had God only made black and white, one flower, we wouldn't have cared or even known the difference. But he painted this room for us. We're his children. He gives bceause he loves. Even before we were born he loves.
I also learned about who God is and we are. We are both spirit and personal. John 4:24, Isaiah 55:8-9, Exodus 20:2 and Isaiah 1:8.
The scripture also says that we have a mind of Christ. We were made to think. God gave us the ability to think "Who are you?" "I am Me."
-God says tell them, I AM. I AM is sending you. This in the same way shows us we need to know who WE are.
God has
an imagination, memory, emotion, is volutional and communicates to name a few we learned about.
Think with me for a moment:
If God is love (and cannot change)...and love, by definition, needs another to fully express itself (you can't love by yourself) AND in the beginning was God, (and only God), then it's only reasonable and rational that God is 3 in 1. (The Trinity). This is because it would not be possible for Him to love if there was no toher being to be in a relationship with.
