Journal from Holy Spirit week
Week 9 was from Jason and Rina Riley about the Holy Spirit. I don't have any of my notes up yet, but it was a pretty incredible week for me in understanding the Holy Spirit and gifts better. I've never really understood the HS much, which is probably how the HS will always be for me and others because it's just that magical and mysterious but that's what's so fantastic about it.
I do want to truly say that I thought the the HS is something that we want to say, ok who has it? Well whenever we ask Jesus into our hearts, that's the precise moment we ge the gift. This gift is Jesus who died, and now lives in our hearts. Again that's why Jesus said it's better that I leave you to the disciples because then He, this perfect man could actually live in spirit inside of them/us.
With the gifts of things like wisdom, knowledge, healing, discernment, etc., I learned that we aren't necessarily granted a gift once we ask Jesus into our hearts. We have access to ALL the gifts. However, some are more in-tune or better with one or I guess 'more comfortable' would be a bette way of my understanding how they work. But, that's not to say that if I don't feel I have the gift of healing, that if I'm in a crisis where someone's injured or sick and I'm the only person around who knows Jesus Christ, then my prayer won't work? Heck no! I have the HS! That's all we need. Now it doesn't mean that the person will always or necessarily be healed or even right then and there, but it means I have the gift to tap into it just as some famous healer would like Heidi Baker.
From our Evangelists and school leaders, we heard really cool stories about how these students say 18 years old, went into this hospital, and this man next to them died. They were the only Christians around, and they immediately went to pray. Nothing fancy done or said over the man but to bring him back to life in Jesus name, and you know what, a miracle happened. The man rose from the dead.
There are other stories of a few students who went into a township and prayed very casually as some do, no shouting or "in the name of Jesus" super emotionally, but just said a simple prayer for this lady who had a disease that covered up her eyes. What the girls didn't know is that the next day the disease spread away from one eye and by the end of the week the girl's entire disease had left her face/body completely! The only way we hear this story is from Michael and Kaylinne our evangelists who live there and work with that lady and the people. Amazing things this HS does! Oh God is so good!
The second part of my journal was to pray over the weekend to the HS, and ask for a Word of Knowledge for osmeone on my DTS team. When I was praying for God to speak something to me, the person who came into my mind was this girl named Maryann on my team. We don't know each other really well, but I do appreciate her and her words she speaks. I didn't actually hear or see anything from the HS, HOWEVER, I did feel something. I felt a complete calmness. My body was at ease. I felt that that presence of reserve was from God for me to convey to Maryann. Perhaps that's all she needs to hear. I've yet to tell her. Hopefully it will help her out right now in her life and walk with God towards preparing for her outreach. We'll see. :)
