Rise up (Monday morning)
Got up early couldn't sleep. Couldn't sleep last night either. Yes I'll crash hard in a few hours I'm sure. Until then I MUST release these ideas.
Sorry to my audience, if there is one...but I need to express these thoughts so that I can always look back and reflect. Plus I think externally better. So what I'm saying is I will report what's been going on later, for now it's my heart and mind on the screen for me.
SO, I have a few ways this can go. This is the long-term thinking campaign. Yes if we're to help prevent HIV, trafficking and prostitution especially here in this country for the massive event of the WC2010, we need to at least prevent to keep from the healing process to be over our heads...which the country feels like it already is. And not just here. But hear my thinking.
This is a campaign 2010, for change. It's first of all to not make things worse, BUT to see how we can use this event to pioneer an imitation of what Uganda did. Clear and loud abstinence against sex. This came from the president the government, programs, the CHURCHES (our loudest voice especially here), schools, and this whole strategic plan.
So, we first have a 'hit' of a campaign using soccer and this massive event, then we use the focus and lime light of the world to hear this campaign, and hold US, (SA and especially the churches)accountable to then proceeding with pushing this message in new marketing ways. For this day in age.
Look and research what worked in Uganda, and take from there the right tools and heart to implement that into things for today. Yes, sports, drama, film, video games, xtreme sports, gardening, photography, baking, surfing, singing, bowling, education, the Bible, design, clothes design, life gaurding, farming, I.T. and computer stuff, challenges-ropes courses, and more and more! THere's so much to take away and fill youth, children, even adults with to find avenues of value and joy. Then, we must provide those avenues. FIRST however, the message must be to abstain from sex. Give rise to finding value in each and every individual. Don't come to me and say we need to first reach the men. Or say no no we need to first raise up the women. NO! We're all interconnected and woven and each have choices to make. It starts from within. Finding that love within. Love for yourself. Love for yourself then enables you to have love for your family. THen you friends, then your household and neighborhood moving to city/town, state, country, province, region, nation, continent...WORLD.
Just like those who know the Lord say, it must begin with this value we find which God gives us. A reason to have hope. I can't stress this enough. But this value in abstaining from sex isn't necessarily just at that focus. Step back from that box. See the bigger picture. IT's about value. It's finding worth. It's choosing. Making choices. I saw my roomate from Botswana, who came here and learned in 3 months to speak her mind. To speak about things she enjoyed, didn't enjoy. She learned to say how she felt. Speak about her past, things she desired for the future. She learned to dream and found value in herself not only in this place as a team/family, but as an individual. She had grown in her inner relationship with God. Her environment then allowed her to have a voice. She found it alright :) I love you Pudu! And now she's taken her first trip on an airplane, and is in India preaching the Gospel. THe GOOD NEWS she knows. Now she's rising up to want to do more. Help open a YWAM base in Botswana. She has no income. But God's supplying to her faithfulness. She's a perfect role model to show what finding a voice in value. I can't wait to hear the stories and see how her life grows to help effect others in finding value in themselves. This starts with Christ.
She now has a choice to say no I value myself I want to save myself for my husband. I also want to prevent myself from being like those I see EVERYWHERE in my community who are contracting diseases, HIV, looking helplessly for love, work, VALUE.
Ok, enough ranting on that...check this
Back to my campaign. This value isn't found in everyone. God also isn't found in everywhere. BUT, we still must go at it head on because this event is creating an avenue for a much larger problem. SA wants this event to help them and their beautiful country, where FIFA isn't out to be a saint. They want to look like a saint, but it's a business. PROFIT. $$$ is all they see. Hope Centers are created because they have to look like they're giving back into the country. But come on, trying to help the police, market, money making marking for that matter of legalizing drinking in the streets, prostitution isn't helping this country and the valued people in it. Plus, once WC is over, then what? Is anyone looking to after?
In the least bit, we need to raise awareness!
Just like on cigarette packets, on alcohol bottles, things of that sort that have a WARNING on what's not good for you. Impaired vision/decision making skills. Burning your lungs creating ways of dying faster. Cancer.
Why can't sex here be seen as the same? If HIV is so dang prevalent, then why can't we have warning signs on things to prevent trouble. It costs money to house HIV/AIDS, STD, 'sick' patients. It costs money to feed, clothe, bathe, give medications, treatment, bury bodies, house orphans, feed orphans, etc., you get my point. This is a HUGE cost. Which costs more? Prevention or rehabilitation. This isn't even your ordinary rehabilitation it's one that's contagious!
Next idea is for this country to change the perspective.
If you don't care about telling others about preventing disease and future problems, for them to take back to their countries and spread, think about this...
Say, John comes to South Africa to party. He's known as being promiscuous. He sleeps around alright. He also from that behavior carries a nasty STD and even has HIV. Let's say John doesn't even know it yet. Or worse, let's say he does know it. HOwever, JOhn still comes to the WC2010 for a great time. WHy not? He has the money, his drinking buddies and soccer fanatics are going as well. It's going to be one hell of a time! Right? So he goes and feeds off of FIFA's and South Africa's market. THe one being created right as we speak. He has sex. He gives then gives someone living here in South Africa not only syphilis but HIV. Therefore, if that person with the statistic of 1 in 5 who have HIV/aids(rounding very high up, then John did a fantastic job of giving them that. What a gift John thank for coming, spending your precious money in our country that needs it and also giving us a present to spread further to cost us more in the end. AND, John not only passes on this, but he used a child, yes a child say 12 years old to give it to who didn't want to but since they're a slave, a slave in prostitution (it's all linked like i say) which then makes the issue and problem in this Sub-Sahara African continent even worse! It's the highest and increasin area in the world where HIV is the worst. Now more funding for help, rehabilitation, organizations, volunteers, volunteers to come from other countries to help, clinics, more graves...it never ends. I dont' even want to think about it. But we must. It's possible. Then you can delve into this 12 year old girl's life, who then contracts this, and is then forced for more sex labor. Perhaps she goes through a pregnancy and is forced to have abortion after abortion to continue work. This is happening. I know. Sick. Makes me sick.
We must prevent. Then follow up with a campaign to change. It's not the absolute solution, but it's an avenue. It's a start.
What if this country is the role-model for others?
