World Cup 2010 Abstinence Campaign (plan)
Mission
To stir up awareness before and during the soccer World Cup in South Africa by creating a positive campaign. This Campaign will be to tell South Africa as well as the rest of the world who plan to take part of being in the country during the event, to declare abstinence.
Main Goal: Make awareness to the world how abstinence can create a safe world cup.
Why?
WC 2010 is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expose the major problems of SA, primarily HIV and AIDS.
All the people who are coming to SA for 1 month to party, have a great vacation, sleep around. What is going to happen?
With over 30% of the people here who have HIV, there is a huge chance that not only will the victims here raise in numbers, but those from other countries who partake in this event can contract the disease and then take it back to their mother lands. Does the world realize we’re all potentially effected?
The HIV/AIDS pandemic can increase during the event. Human trafficking and child prostitution already is growing at an increasing rate not only in South Africa.
The effects of this World Cup may not even be seen until a few years later when contraction starts to spread in other countries. When the link gets traced back to this event, South Africa and FIFA will be terribly looked upon.
The least that needs to be done to help the world during this time, is to raise awareness! Let the world know what’s going on and how to help not make it a larger problem!
For one month, tell the world here in South Africa to remain abstinent.
ABSTINENCE is the absolute safest way to prevent spreading of HIV/AIDS. We can see this from researching the campaign that happened in Uganda years ago. Once a country with the largest amount of HIV/AIDS infected population cut the rate in half by declaring nationally, abstinence.
The heart beat of African countries beats from South Africa, therefore this message can touch issues that reach around.
South Africa needs to use this chance to tell the world who they are so the world can stop being ignorant and fearing South Africa.
Declaring abstinence will bring up the question why. That is then when knowledge, which is power, can be obtained.
How?
Create a commercial/trailer to get out into television and the internet around the world. Preferably the commercial present the campaign using soccer celebrities such as Kaka.
A website needs to be formed with all the information, a blog, a logo, a slogan, such as “Live Long” or “Kick The Urge” needs to be designed. This website needs to have a video to share on links such as Youtube, face book, etc., to reach as many people as possible.
Newspapers, magazines, radio, journals, pictures, billboards and all over networks on the internet are ways to get the message out.
There needs to be statistics/facts, research, contact details, what you can do to be safe and to help.
Tee shirts, hats, stickers, fliers and more are ways to also get the message out.
Bracelet’s like Lance Armstrong’s that say the slogan “Live Long” instead of “Live Strong” can be created to be a declaration and even a purchased. The proceeds could then be donated to an organization in South Africa who does research or something good with the funds to give back to the people who need it.
When?
As soon as possible. With 6 months to get a message out there needs to be a website and a trailer made to at least start putting the message on the web.
Who?
Noel Cameron and company
Adidas? Nike? FIFA?
Campaign Team
At least 3 full-time staff
Qualities/traits/qualifications: Passionate for the same mission, journalism, knowledge in legal areas, film, photography, marketing, graphic design, South African (net-work and speak Afrikaans), knowledge/educated in HIV/AIDS, knowledge in human trafficking, knowledge in child prostitution, team oriented, and volunteer.
Supporting Ideas
Take this video/trailer and get it put not only on television, but on websites, blogs, face book, twitter, HIV websites, organizations that support abstinence, movie theatres, churches, schools, sporting events all during but especially prior to the WC 2010. Have friends/WYAM/family and more, pass the video/trailer onto who they know.
Get interviews of famous soccer players, or professionals on HIV, Human Trafficking, maybe even victims and have it played on the radio or be used in a commercial for the radio.
Get billboards up with famous people promoting the campaign. Maybe wearing the bracelet or kicking a ball that says abstinence on it.
Get educated in HIV awareness, Human Trafficking, Child prostitution and give this presentation to groups such as churches, schools, businesses, sports teams, conventions, and other public events.
Travel the country in a convey with a team who is skilled in the knowledge of presenting HIV awareness, Human Trafficking, Child Prostitution, and maybe a sports ministry/life skills like Ubabalo, Grass-roots soccer, Ambassadors in Sport, or Upward. Stay in churches or YWAM bases and get as many places as possibly to go and take the messages that are all under the main message of this abstinence campaign. Have one of the members of the team have skills in filming and another in photography, even journalism, and cover all the places we go by exposing more of what this beautiful country actually possesses. Personal testimonies of people and their situation in life. Get people’s perspectives and background. Show the good, the bad, show who and where do people need help. Show the organizations, NGOs, churches, leaders and more out there who are doing good and expose them and how to help. Then after going through and even checking back to see who’s been spreading the word, go into more training and get more locations in those areas (main cities where WC 2010 stadiums are hosting). In the end, you have footage and stories to show the world and can make a video of the adventure.
Make fliers, stickers, bracelets, t-shirts, hats, and more with the message and more information with the website on it. This is to have people hopefully not just here in South Africa but around the world personally spreading the message and to tell others to pass it along.
Keep a record of the funds being raised by the selling of bracelets and/or donations to whatever organization we choose to give proceeds to on the website. Also have this interactive website have competitions such as most creative logo design or something like vote for your favorite slogan.
Get a jingle or band(s) to play a song that is tribute to the cause and message. Bono?
Have a supporting billboard/commercial with a famous soccer player or celebrity declaring abstinence with the bracelet.
Have professional/or any soccer players who promote this message go to soccer camps, host soccer camps, and be sending out this message publicly.
Interactive: Which design company can create the most unique logo/t-shirts for the message.
Use this campaign to be asking organizations/businesses such as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding an support towards HIV/AIDS, Child prostitution, Human Trafficking. This includes ideas like Wieden and Kennedy have done in creating a creative center to bring researchers together for creative conferences to examine how they can stretch their imaginations to come up with different approaches to cures.
Be researching organizations, events, countries, cases where HIV/AIDS has been effected by abstinence. Get facts and figures. Look into all types of organizations and what they are doing/saying about the disease.
Get a visual ads in magazines. Again try and use professional athletes, celebrities.
Contact journalists, newspapers, talk-show hosts who we can get in contact with to spread message. Again maybe with a celebrity.
